We are thrilled to share our contribution to the Costa Riga Bogotá Metro Line 1 Project, a groundbreaking infrastructure initiative that will redefine urban mobility in Colombia’s capital. It will accommodate 72,000 passengers per hour in each direction, amounting to 1.05 million a day. As Bogotá’s first metro line, this transformative project is designed to alleviate congestion, enhance public transportation efficiency, and support the city’s sustainable development.
In this project, CUMIC supplied 588 tons of Sheet Pile JIS A5528 SY390. Known for its exceptional strength and durability, this steel grade plays a critical role in large-scale infrastructure projects. The sheet piles will be used for retaining wall structures and deep foundation reinforcement, ensuring the stability and resilience of key metro structures.
As of February 2025, the construction progress stands at 48.24%, also on track for a March 2028 launch, with the aim of significantly improving mobility in Bogotá and benefiting millions of users. Stretching 24 kilometers and comprising 16 stations, the Bogotá Metro Line 1 is set to improve transit connectivity for millions of residents. The elevated design, reaching 13.5 meters in height, requires robust materials that can withstand environmental stressors and heavy structural loads.
· High Strength – With a tensile strength≥540 MPa and yield strength≥390 Mpa, it can withstand the heavy dynamic loads generated by passing trains, ensuring a stable and durable railway foundation.
· Corrosion Resistance – Withstands harsh environmental conditions, reducing long-term maintenance needs.
· Interlocking System – Allows sheet piles to form continuous walls, creating a watertight and structurally sound barrier, critical for flood defense, underground parking lots, metro projects, and quay walls.
· Efficient Installation – Designed for easy driving and extraction, reducing construction time and costs.
· Versatile Applications – Can be driven into the ground rapidly, also removable and reusable, ideal for deep excavation, foundation reinforcement, and large-scale infrastructure projects.
